There are these dreams that accompany us from an early age, are deeply rooted in our hearts and never really let go. For me, it's the love of England that has had a firm grip on me since I was a teenager. When I look back today, my younger self couldn't be prouder.
And that's exactly what Jennifer Kisner's blog parade (in German) is all about. Thank you for the inspiration to tell my story.
The journey I undertook to live and deepen my love for England is a story of adventure, longing and fulfilment.
It all started with EAST 17 - My first great love for England
My love for England started innocently in my teens when I was a huge fan of the British boy band EAST17. I was fascinated by their music and their performances (erm yes, I was one of THOSE fans...thanks to my parents and sister for driving me there and coming with me). I fancied the cool, handsome Brian who adorned every inch of my teenage bedroom wall.
And suddenly England was not just a country for me, but a feeling. It was as if this music opened a door to a new world for me, a world full of coolness, style and endless possibilities. I was completely mesmerised and dreamed of one day walking the streets of London, experiencing the country that had given birth to my crush. Find out why emotion plays such a big part in manifestation here.
Rosamunde Pilcher and the intensified longing
Like many others, I was captivated by the world of Rosamunde Pilcher. The picturesque landscapes, the happy endings brought to life in her films, awakened in me a deep longing for England that grew with each film. Cornwall, with its dramatic coastlines and unique stately homes, became a place of longing in my imagination, a spot I desperately wanted to be in one day.
The energy that these films triggered in me confirmed my feeling: England was my destination.
First trip to London at 18 - a dream come true
When I was 18, the time had finally come: my first trip to London was on the cards. The excitement was almost unbearable. All those years I had dreamed of experiencing this city that had become a myth in my mind.
London did not disappoint. The vibrant energy, the history that could be felt in every corner and the diversity of the people - it was all even more impressive than I had imagined.
Of course, the fact that I was on this trip with my first love put the romantic icing on the cake!
2009 – Solo-trip to Cornwall
In 2009, I was ready for the next chapter in my love story with England: a two-week solo trip to Cornwall. All alone, I set off to the land of my dreams to finally see the places I knew so well from the Rosamunde Pilcher films. Cornwall was everything I had hoped for and more. The breathtaking nature, the friendly people and the peaceful atmosphere - it felt like I had finally arrived. This trip was an intense experience that deepened my connection to England and strengthened my desire to live there one day.

2010 - Emigrating to England
This wish was soon to become a reality. 2010 was the year I took the big step and emigrated to England. It was a brave move and I knew I didn't want to be anywhere else. I had realised that England was the home of my soul and I was ready to build my life there. The first few months were exciting and challenging at the same time. New job, all in English constantly. It wasn't always easy, I was really exhausted in the evenings from listening, translating and all the new impressions. Here is a short reel with a few photos of my move...
2012 – Move to Cornwall
Two years later, the time had finally come: I set up my first marketing and business consultant business and moved to Cornwall. This move felt like the fulfilment of a long-held dream. I lived in St Ives. The coasts I had admired in the films were now my everyday life. The people I met there and the experiences I had made a deep impression on me. Cornwall became my personal paradise and I enjoyed every minute in this beautiful region.
2013 – Return to Switzerland
As life goes, however, my path led me back to Switzerland in 2013. It was a difficult decision, and a necessary one. Nevertheless, my love for England remained unbroken. I found a way to keep this love alive by regularly travelling to London and Cornwall for several weeks at a time. These trips became a regular part of my life, a way to maintain my connection to England.
It was clear to me that I wanted to spend as much time there as possible and so I completely switched my business to online by the end of 2018. And that's also how I laid the foundation for my current lifestyle...

2021 - Vanlife and the return to England
At the end of 2021, a new chapter began for me: vanlife. With my Van Grace, I set off through France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany and even a short detour to Belgium. It was a time full of freedom and adventure, but deep in my heart I knew that my true destination was England.
On 6 September 2023, the time had finally come: I returned, and when I saw the white cliffs of Dover, I knew I was back where I belonged. England, I'm back! This return was an emotional moment that touched me deeply. It was as if a circle had closed and I was back where my soul feels home after all these years.
And here's the fun fact: according to a DNA analysis, I am 23.2% English!
2023 and beyond - House and pet sitting in England
However, the winter in the van in England presented me with new challenges. The cold and damp were anything but tingling. I needed a warm alternative, which is how I discovered House and Pet Sitting*. It has so many beautiful aspects, the wonderful animals, the great encounters with the owners, getting to know new areas and communities.
Since December 2023, I have experienced 17 house sits and the next ones are already planned: Cornwall, Wales and Somerset are on my list and I can't wait to experience these new adventures.
