Vanlife with Claudia & Grace

A life on the move

I've been living my dream for three years now, travelling with my Van Grace.

This life keeps taking me to new places, inspiring people and wonderful animals.

Every place and every encounter is a gift for me and the freedom to live like this fills me with gratitude every day.

Why Vanlife & how is that possible?

To be location independent has been my goal for a long time. Above all, so that I can travel and spend a lot of time in my soul country, England.

The HOW has emerged along the way

  1. Over the years, I have set up and reorganised my business so that I have been able to live and work completely remotely since the end of 2018.
  2. My family and close friends were informed and involved right from the start. This allowed everyone to slowly get used to it.
  3. I have 3 clearly defined fixed dates when I am in Switzerland. My nephews' birthdays and carnival! Yes, a bit of cherry picking is allowed...
  4. Regular online meetings or phone calls with my soulmates. Not really any different to you, is it?

Of course, vanlife is not always all sunshine and rainbows

  • You learn quickly (and sometimes the hard way) that resources are extremely precious. For example, you're standing in the middle of nowhere and you run out of water, solar power, diesel or gas - not cool!
  • To make sure this doesn't happen, I've put together a vanlife wish list of how you can support me.
  • It takes a lot of organisation and coordination. In many places you are only allowed to park for 24 hours - unfavourable if meetings are planned for the whole day.
  • The nights are getting colder - 3 layers of clothing, woollen hat, scarf, 4 blankets - for sleeping!
  • Yes, it can be lonely sometimes. As I'm usually travelling alone, I can get to know and love myself even better...

Three years of adventure on wheels and an ingenious luxury alternative

My vanlife in numbers and experiences

  • Driven25,000+ kilometres
  • Travelled to 8 countries, collected countless stories
  • Working from anywhere - my business adapts to my life
  • House- & Petsitting* - a fulfilling addition to experience communities and animals more intensively

Housesitting: The perfect complement

Especially in the colder months, house-sitting is a wonderful balance to life on four wheels for me. While Grace often has to withstand freezing temperatures and limited resources in winter, the usually very luxurious houses I house-sit in offer me a warm, stable retreat. Water, electricity, stable wifi and a safe spot for Grace are not only comfortable, but also a real relief - especially when the nights are frosty!

Petsitting also allows me to live out my love of animals and experience the community in a deeper way. By caring for animals and interacting with their owners, I build valuable connections and get the feeling of finding another home wherever I go. Who knows, maybe this way of travelling will eventually lead me to the place I want to stay.

For how much longer?

I am asked this question again and again. And I don't know the answer.
My goal is to one day find a place where I feel I have fully ‘ found my place’. Until then, I look forward to the freedom and adventure of each new day - trust the process!
